MD6217 Professional Experience

For my experiences, I have listed down a number of practical or field works that I have been involved with over the past term time. The list is as follows:

1. Session Musician for t.e.d at the Underground Festival at Music Works, Gloucester.

I worked as a session musicain for t.e.d at the Underground Fest that took place in Gloucester. My main responsibilities were to fill in the rhythm section as t.e.d's musician approach was very plain and simple with light percussion, bass and guitar therefore, I had to use various playing techniques from picking styles to finger based playing, which I am not traditionally used to since I play more rock style of instrumentations with a band. This had an impact in the composition and arrangement therefore, my influences helped the band with what skills I had and to provide with.

2. Space Monsters as a wedding band, 1st March 2022.

This was my first and only English wedding event I have attended so far. Our band were involved in teaching the audience some choir vocals in order to impress the bride as she walked down the aisle. We were also there to entertain people having the best time of their lives an obviously performed some dance music for the newly wedded couple.

3. Space Monsters (New Lineup) at the Glostoneberet, Frog & Fiddle.

Space Monsters went through a couple adjusments during their one year gigging and performances around Cheltenham and Gloucester. Fellow mate, James Francis filled in the slot as the lead guitarist for us during the night of Glostoneberet at the Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham. We complied to James and played songs which were interesting to him as well to us. Our classic rock sounds shifted towards a more post modern sound with the likes of Royal Blood and Wolf Mother tracks being added into our set list. It was the best night in our lives as people were jumping and moving around like we've never seen before!

4. Salil Maharjan & Band at Wychwood 2022, Cheltenham Racecourse, 4 June 2022.

5. Salil Maharjan & Band at Culture Fest, Pitville Park, 11 June 2022.

Me, Adam (keys), Saffron (bass), Cameron (drums) played in Pitville Park in front of the Pump Room at the Culuture Fest 2022. It was a paid show however, I didn't take any fee to perform as it was a charity event so it was best to provide some free entertainment to people. For this event, we played original songs from Salil Maharjan's EP, Pop Stories from Britain.

For our preparation, we used external instruments such as a Roland SPD to add some modernity to the element of performance as we have always been following the more tradition route of a 4 piece band most of the times in the past. However, based on our audience research, we wanted to go for a more R&B pop/soul.

6. Space Monsters at Smokey Joe's, 25 November 2022.

I've generally worked as a performer, where I've spent my time and effort rehearsing and researching the audiences to figure out how and what music to play in order to get the crowd going. It took us a couple of weeks of practise for each event we played at to achieve this.

7. Salil Maharjan at Bento Lounge & Bar (Kathmandu Show), 15 January 2022.

This was my first show after returning home for my short christmas break from university. I was contacted by a talent management company named, 'Garage Entertainment' and with a contract and deal worth for a day's work, I went and performed at Bento, which is in the capital city, in Kathmandu. I played my original Nepal songs and a few various popular covers with my band.

The event was sponsored by Carlseberg Nepal.

8. Salil Maharjan at Junkiri Sessions in London, 30 Oct 2021.

This was my first garden session in London and first ever performance in the area. It was a lovely atmosphere as can be seen in the phoograph below. The session's main goal was to generate enough money for charity. As a bilingual Nepali artist on stage, I performed Nepali songs to the vast majority of Nepali crowd followed by a couple original and covers that were in English. It was a beautiful night mostly focused in getting communities together to create a better future for the ones who have not had that priviledge.
